Can anyone recommend a lightweight carbon-fiber DSLR tripod?
I'm going on a safari holiday in 5 weeks time, however my current tripod is pretty poor so I'm looking to buy a new one. I'm looking for a lightweight carbon-Fiber Tripod, possibly Manfrotto or Gitzo that weight 500g-1.7kg max and can support up to 4kg. I have a 150mm-500mm f5 lens that weighs about 1.8kg on its own so the tripod needs to support the lens weight + Camera Body + battery grip. The tripod needs to be lightweight as it will be carried around on a backpack with some camping equipment. Points for the lightest, sturdiest and cheapest (Must be able to buy this in the UK)
The Manfrotto is a good choice. I have one, but not the lightweight one. When hiking, I use a Manfrotto monopod which I stick in my backpack.
When shooting using my field 4x5, I lug the standard Manfrotto tripod with me. By the time you include the camera, lens, Film Holders and 6 liters of water, the little difference between a standard tripod and carbon-fiber is lost.
