What is a good Digital SLR cameras for under £340; Canon, Sony or Nikon?
I have seen the Canon d1000 an the Nikon d60 and d40 along with the Sony a200, but what is the best of these four.
Are there any others that are recommended around the £340 price range.
Is it good to have live view as I woudl prefer this, but is it neccesary
I would be interested in action sports such as footbal and motor sport, however I would also use it for buildings.
I think the d1000 is what we call the XS in the US? It is also a very good camera.
You are actually buying a camera 'family' when you purchase your dslr. You can see from your interests that you will quickly wind up with at least one additional lens - because you are going to need a telephoto to take football and motor sport, and a wide angle to take buildings.
So you not only need to look at the camera, but also the lens you intend on buying. Both Canon and Nikon will give you the widest selection now and in the future. You will also find that in general, for every Canon model there is an equivalent Nikon model. Sometimes you just have to hold one to see how they work for you.
I'm not familiar with the a200, and I prefer the D60 over the D40, but it is a bit of a toss up between the D60 and d1000 (or the Canon d400 if you want to add that one in). Play with them and see what is best for you.
