changing a Tripod Head?
I just got a tripod for Christmas which is what I really needed its a great tripod. A 620-750tmbb by platinum plus by sunpak. its a great tripod, the legs feel strong and not flimsy, its heavy which is a plus because i don't have to use a sandbag when im on a shoot with my dcr-vx2100 and it turns into a monopod, but the one thing that disgusts me about this tripod/monopod is the head, its made completely of (it feels like anyway) low end plastic, when I move the head up and down you can hear plastic rubbing on plastic and it moves very squarely and not fluidly its a little janky actually. So I want to get a new tripod head for it, and I removed the head yesterday and its a screw on, I've never disassembled a tripod before so this is all new to me, and the tripod only costs like $80-$90 so i'm not looking at spending more than $200 on a new head. any suggestions for this tripod would be great and do most new heads screw on? any help is greatly appreciated.
Bogen makes supports with interchangeable parts. A popular head with videographers is the Bogen Model #3160. it allows for smooth adjustment of drag friction. However it attaches via 3/8 inch screw hardware, and most cheap legs only have 1/4 inch - 20 screw attachment (same as the mount camera).
